Aggregate – any material that can be used as the growing medium and that provides support to the plant.
Aggregated hydroponic system – one of the two categories of hydroponic systems that uses a growing medium. The aggregate (growing medium) is placed in a container. The container is then fixed on the platform such that the root system shall suspend in the growing tub.
Dynamic type hydroponic system – one of the two types of hydroponic systems where the nutrient solution is continuously or continually supplied.
Growing tub – a container the holds the root system of the plant together with the required nutrient solution.
Hydroponics – the method of growing plants using water as the medium to transmit nutrients to the roots.
Inert – does not react with other substances, in the case of hydroponics, the plants, the NS, the aggregate and the other components of the system.
Non-aggregated hydroponic system – one of the two categories of hydroponic systems that does not use any growing medium. The root system is directly exposed to the nutrient solution.
Nutrient solution (NS) – a mixture of water and the nutrients
Platform – usually the cover of the growing tub, where the plant or the container of the aggregate seats on. Platforms should not allow sunlight to penetrate into the nutrient solution to prevent algae growth.
Reservoir – a container that holds the nutrient solution, usually in larger volume than the growing tub.
Static type hydroponic system – one of the two types of hydroponic systems where the nutrient solution is not continuously or continually supplied.
